Marcus Brown, the Baltimore musician behind the alias Nourished By Time, is gearing up to release his second album, The Passionate Ones, in just a few weeks. Following his 2024 EP Catching Chickens, this upcoming record marks his first release under XL Recordings. Crafted between Baltimore, London, and New York, the 12-track project promises to be a cathartic journey, diving into themes of love, labor, existentialism, and hope, all filtered through Brown’s unique, genre-blending sound. It’s a reflection on chasing dreams amid disillusionment, a personal sermon born from the ruins of the so-called American Dream. Ahead of the album, Brown has also announced a 24-hour livestream on his YouTube channel starting August 5, featuring “continuous moments, sounds, collaborations, and unfolding moments” with inspiring guests from his journey in music.

Following the excellent singles “Max Potential” and “9 2 5,” Nourished By Time has just dropped “BABY BABY.” The latest preview of the album is described in a press release as “a deadpan dispatch from the frontlines of desire and dysfunction.” Over sleek, club-ready breakbeats, Brown sings, “Let’s get it crackin’, chemical reaction/ Low on money, quite high on passion,” capturing the messy intersection of longing and late-night recklessness.
The accompanying video, filmed by Caroline Waxse at New Jersey’s sprawling American Dream entertainment complex, mirrors that overstimulated, chaotic energy with its endless loop of escalator rides, imposing structures, and a search for meaning amid excess. Watch below.
